- 1 Und nach diesen Begebenheiten, unter der Regierung Artasastas, des Königs von Persien, zog Esra, der Sohn Serajas, des Sohnes Asarjas, des Sohnes Hilkijas,
- 2 des Sohnes Schallums, des Sohnes Zadoks, des Sohnes Ahitubs,
- 3 des Sohnes Amarjas, des Sohnes Asarjas, des Sohnes Merajoths,
- 4 des Sohnes Serachjas, des Sohnes Ussis, des Sohnes Bukkis,
- 5 des Sohnes Abischuas, des Sohnes Pinehas, des Sohnes Eleasars, des Sohnes Aarons, des Hauptpriesters-
- 6 dieser Esra zog herauf von Babel; und er war ein kundiger Schriftgelehrter in dem Gesetz Moses, welches Jehova, der Gott Israels, gegeben hatte. Und weil die Hand Jehovas, seines Gottes, über ihm war, gab ihm der König all sein Begehr.
- 7 Und es zog mit ihm eine Anzahl von den Kindern Israel und von den Priestern und den Leviten und den Sängern und den Torhütern und den Nethinim nach Jerusalem hinauf, im siebten Jahre des Königs Artasasta.
- 8 Und er kam nach Jerusalem im fünften Monat, das war das siebte Jahr des Königs.
- 9 Denn am Ersten des ersten Monats hatte er den Hinaufzug aus Babel festgesetzt; und am Ersten des fünften Monats kam er nach Jerusalem, weil die gute Hand seines Gottes über ihm war.
- 10 Denn Esra hatte sein Herz darauf gerichtet, das Gesetz Jehovas zu erforschen und zu tun, und in Israel Satzung und Recht zu lehren.
- 11 Und dies ist die Abschrift des Briefes, welchen der König Artasasta dem Priester Esra, dem Schriftgelehrten, gab, dem Schriftgelehrten in den Worten der Gebote Jehovas und seinen Satzungen für Israel:
- 12 Artasasta, König der Könige, Esra, dem Priester, dem vollkommenen Schriftgelehrten im Gesetz des Gottes des Himmels, und so weiter.
- 13 Von mir wird Befehl gegeben, daß ein jeder in meinem Reiche, von dem Volke Israel und seinen Priestern und den Leviten, der bereitwillig ist, nach Jerusalem zu ziehen, mit dir ziehen mag.
- 14 Weil du von dem König und seinen sieben Räten gesandt wirst, um eine Untersuchung über Juda und Jerusalem anzustellen, nach dem Gesetz deines Gottes, das in deiner Hand ist,
- 15 und das Silber und das Gold hinzubringen, das der König und seine Räte dem Gott Israels, dessen Wohnung in Jerusalem ist, freiwillig gegeben haben,
- 16 sowie alles Silber und Gold, das du in der ganzen Landschaft Babel bekommen wirst, nebst der freiwilligen Gabe des Volkes und der Priester, die freiwillig geben für das Haus ihres Gottes, das in Jerusalem ist;
- 17 deshalb kaufe mit Fleiß für dieses Geld Stiere, Widder, Lämmer, und ihre Speisopfer und ihre Trankopfer, und bringe sie dar auf dem Altar des Hauses eures Gottes, das in Jerusalem ist.
- 18 Und was dich und deine Brüder gut dünkt, mit dem übrigen Silber und Gold zu tun, das möget ihr nach dem Willen eures Gottes tun.
- 19 Und die Geräte, die dir zum Dienste des Hauses deines Gottes gegeben worden sind, liefere ab vor dem Gott Jerusalems.
- 20 Und den übrigen Bedarf des Hauses deines Gottes, was dir auszugeben vorfallen wird, sollst du aus dem Schatzhause des Königs ausgeben. -
- 21 Und von mir, dem König Artasasta, wird an alle Schatzmeister jenseit des Stromes Befehl gegeben, daß alles, was Esra, der Priester, der Schriftgelehrte im Gesetz des Gottes des Himmels, von euch fordern wird, pünktlich getan werde,
- 22 bis zu hundert Talenten Silber und bis zu hundert Kor Weizen und bis zu hundert Bath Wein und bis zu hundert Bath Öl, und Salz ohne Maß.
- 23 Alles, was nach dem Befehl des Gottes des Himmels ist, soll für das Haus des Gottes des Himmels sorgfältig getan werden; denn warum sollte ein Zorn kommen über das Reich des Königs und seiner Söhne?
- 24 Und euch wird kundgetan, daß niemand ermächtigt ist, allen Priestern und Leviten, Sängern, Torhütern, Nethinim und Dienern dieses Hauses Gottes Steuer, Zoll und Weggeld aufzuerlegen. -
- 25 Du aber, Esra, bestelle nach der Weisheit deines Gottes, die bei dir ist, Richter und Rechtspfleger, welche alles Volk richten sollen, das jenseit des Stromes ist, alle, welche die Gesetze deines Gottes kennen; und dem, der sie nicht kennt, sollt ihr sie kundtun.
- 26 Und ein jeder, der das Gesetz deines Gottes und das Gesetz des Königs nicht tun wird, an dem soll mit Eifer Gericht geübt werden, sei es zum Tode, oder zur Verbannung, oder zur Buße an Gütern, oder zum Gefängnis.
- 27 Gepriesen sei Jehova, der Gott unserer Väter, der solches in das Herz des Königs gegeben hat, um das Haus Jehovas zu verherrlichen, das in Jerusalem ist,
- 28 und der mir Güte zugewandt hat vor dem König und seinen Räten und allen mächtigen Fürsten des Königs! Und ich erstarkte, weil die Hand Jehovas, meines Gottes, über mir war, und ich versammelte Häupter aus Israel, daß sie mit mir hinaufzögen.
