- 2 «همۀ اینها را که گفتی می دانم و قبلاً شنیده ام. اما یک انسان فانی چطور می تواند در برابر خدا راست و نیک باشد؟
- 3 چه کسی می تواند با خدا بحث کند؟ کسی قادر نیست که از هزار سوالی که می کند، یکی را هم جواب بدهد.
- 4 زیرا خدا حکیم و دانا و توانا است. کسی نمی تواند در برابر او مقاومت کند و موفق شود.
- 5 بی خبر کوهها را منتقل می سازد و با خشم غضب آن ها را واژگون می کند.
- 6 زمین را از جایش تکان می دهد و پایه های آن را به لرزه می آورد.
- 7 اگر به آفتاب فرمان بدهد، طلوع نمی کند و ستارگان در شب نمی درخشند.
- 8 خدا به تنهائی آسمان ها را پهن کرد و بر موجهای بحر می خرامد.
- 9 دُب اکبر، جبار، ثریا و ستارگان جنوب را آفرید.
- 10 عقل ما از درک کارهای بزرگ و بیشمار او عاجز است.
- 11 از کنار من می گذرد و من او را دیده نمی توانم. حرکت می کند و من احساس نمی کنم.
- 12 هرچه را بخواهد می رباید و کسی نمی تواند مانع او شود و بگوید که چه می کنی؟
- 13 خدا از خشم خود دست نمی کشد و دشمنان خود را که با هیولای بحری کمک کردند، پایمال می سازد.
- 14 پس من چطور می توانم با او بحث کنم و جواب درست بدهم؟
- 15 گرچه گناهی ندارم، چیزی گفته نمی توانم، بجز اینکه از خدائی که داور من است، طلب رحمت کنم.
- 16 حتی اگر مرا بگذارد که حرفی بزنم، یقین ندارم که به سخنان من گوش بدهد.
- 17 او تُندباد را می فرستد و مرا پاشان می سازد و بدون جهت به زخمهایم می افزاید.
- 18 مرا نمی گذارد که نفس بکشم و زندگی مرا تلخ و زار می سازد.
- 19 با او یارای مقابله را ندارم، زیرا قادر و توانا است. اگر به محکمه شکایت ببرم، چه کسی می تواند او را احضار کند؟
- 20 اگر بیگناه هم باشم، حرف زبانم مرا محکوم می سازد و هر چیزی که بگویم، مجرم شناخته می شوم.
- 21 گرچه گناهی ندارم، اما برای من فرقی نمی کند، زیرا از زندگی سیر شده ام.
- 22 خدا بیگناه و گناهکار را یکسان از بین می برد.
- 23 وقتی مصیبتی برسد و بیگناهی را ناگهان هلاک کند، خدا می خندد.
- 24 اختیار زمین را به دست مردم شریر داده و چشمان قضات را کور کرده است. اگر خدا این کار را نکرده چه کسی کرده است؟
- 25 زندگی من سریعتر از نامه رسان تیزرَو می گذرد و بدون آنکه روی خوشی را ببینم.
- 26 سالهای عمرم مانند کشتی های سریع السیر و عقابی که بر شکار خود فرود می آید، به سرعت سپری می شوند.
- 27 اگر خندان باشم و سعی کنم که غمهای خود را از یاد ببرم، چه فایده؟
- 28 زیرا می ترسم که مبادا غم و رنج دوباره به سراغ من بیایند و می دانم که خدا مرا خطاکار می شمارد.
- 29 پس اگر محکوم شوم چرا تلاش بیجا کنم؟
- 30 اگر خود را با صابون بشویم و دستهای خود را با صافترین آبها پاک کنم،
- 31 تو مرا در لای و کثافت فرو می بری تا لباس خودم از من نفرت کند.
- 32 تو مانند من یک انسان فانی نیستی که بتوانم به تو جواب بدهم و با تو به محکمه بروم.
- 33 کسی نیست که بین ما داوری کند و ما را آشتی بدهد.
- 34 اگر از مجازات من دست برداری و هیبت تو مرا به وحشت نیندازد،
- 35 آنگاه می توانستم بدون ترس با تو حرف بزنم، اما متأسفانه اینطور نیست.
