- 1 آنگاه اَلیفاز تَیمانی جواب داد:
- 2 «ایوب، شخص عاقلی مثل تو نباید سخن احمقانه بگوید. کلام تو پوچ و مثل باد هوا است.
- 3 با این گونه سخنان بی معنی نمی توانی از خود دفاع کنی.
- 4 تو از خدا نمی ترسی و به او احترام نداری.
- 5 حرفهائی که می زنی گناهانت را آشکار می کنند و با حیله و نیرنگ صحبت می کنی.
- 6 حرف زبانت ترا محکوم می کند و علیه تو شهادت می دهد.
- 7 آیا فکر می کنی اولین انسانی که بدنیا آمد، تو بودی؟ آیا تو پیشتر از کوهها بوجود آمده ای؟
- 8 آیا تو از نقشۀ مخفی خدا آگاه بوده ای؟ آیا تو عاقلترین مرد روی زمین هستی؟
- 9 هر چیزی را که تو می دانی ما هم می دانیم و چیزهائی را که تو می فهمی برای ما هم واضح و روشن است.
- 10 ما حکمت و دانش را از اشخاص مو سفید و سالخورده که سن شان زیادتر از سن پدر تو است، آموختیم.
- 11 خدا به تو تسلی می بخشد و تو آنرا رد می کنی. ما از طرف خدا با ملایمت با تو حرف زدیم،
- 12 اما تو به هیجان آمده ای و از چشمانت خشم و غضب شراره می زند.
- 13 تو با این حرفهایت نشان می دهی که برضد خدا هستی.
- 14 آیا یک انسان فانی می تواند واقعاً نیک و پاک باشد و عادل شمرده شود؟
- 15 خدا حتی به فرشتگان خود هم اعتماد نمی کند و آسمان ها نیز در نظر او پاک نیستند،
- 16 چه رسد به انسان فاسد و ناچیز که شرارت را مثل آب می نوشد.
- 17 حالا به من گوش بده تا آنچه را که می دانم به تو بیان کنم.
- 18 اینها حقایقی اند که من از اشخاص دانشمند و حکیم آموختم که پدران شان بی کم و کاست به آن ها آشکار ساختند.
- 19 در آن وقت در سرزمین شان بیگانه ای نبود که آن ها را از راه راست خدا منحرف کند.
- 20 شخص شریر که به دیگران ظلم می کند در سراسر عمر خود درد و رنج می بیند.
- 21 صداهای ترسناک در گوشش طنین می اندازد. در وقتیکه فکر می کند آسوده و آرام است، ناگهان مورد حملۀ غارتگران قرار می گیرد.
- 22 امید فرار از تاریکی برایش نیست و عاقبت با شمشیر هلاک می شود.
- 23 در دیار بیگانگان برای یک لقمه نان آواره می گردد و می داند آیندۀ تاریک در پیشرو دارد.
- 24 مصیبت و بدبختی مثل پادشاهی که برای جنگ آماده باشد، او را به وحشت می اندازد،
- 25 زیرا دست خود را بر ضد خدا دراز کرده است و با قادر مطلق می جنگد.
- 26 با گستاخی سپر خود را به دست گرفته به او حمله می کند.
- 27 او هرچند آرام و از مال دنیا بی نیاز باشد،
- 28 اما سرانجام در شهرهای ویران و خانه های غیر مسکون که در حال فروریختن هستند، بسر می برد.
- 29 ثروتش برباد می شود و چیزی برایش باقی نمی ماند.
- 30 از تاریکی فرار کرده نمی تواند و مانند درختی که آتش بگیرد و شاخهایش بسوزند و شگوفه هایش دستخوش باد شوند، دارو ندار خود را از دست می دهد.
- 31 انسان نباید به چیزهای بیهوده و ناپایدار خود را فریب بدهد، زیرا این کار فایده ای ندارد
- 32 و پیش از آنکه چشم از جهان بپوشد، برایش معلوم می شود که اتکاء به چیزهای فانی بیهوده است.
- 33 مثل تاک که انگورهای غوره اش پیش از پخته شدن بریزند و مانند درخت زیتون که شگوفه هایش بتکند، بی ثمر می گردند.
- 34 اشخاص بی خدا، بی اولاد می شوند و خانۀ رشوه خواران در آتش می سوزد.
- 35 آن ها برای شرارت نقشه می کشند و دلهای شان پُر از مکر و حیله است.»
