- 1 Velekněz se Štěpána otázal: „Je tomu tak?“
- 2 A Štěpán začal mluvit: „Bratří a otcové, vyslechněte mne: Bůh slávy se zjevil našemu praotci Abrahamovi ještě v Mezopotámii, než se usadil v Cháranu,
- 3 a řekl mu: ‚Opusť svou zemi a své příbuzné a jdi do země, kterou ti ukážu.‘
- 4 A tak vyšel Abraham z Chaldejské země a usadil se v Cháranu. Když jeho otec zemřel, vyzval jej Bůh, aby se odtud přestěhoval do této země, v které nyní žijete.
- 5 Ale nedal mu z ní do vlastnictví ani píď, slíbil však, že ji dá natrvalo jemu i jeho potomkům, ačkoliv tehdy ještě Abraham neměl syna.
- 6 A Bůh mu řekl: ‚Tvoji potomci se přestěhují do cizí země a budou tam bydlet; udělají z nich otroky a po čtyři sta let s nimi budou zle nakládat.
- 7 Ale já budu soudit národ, který je zotročí‘, řekl Bůh, ‚a oni vyjdou svobodni a budou mi sloužit na tomto místě‘.
- 8 Bůh uzavřel s Abrahamem smlouvu, jejímž znamením se stala obřízka. Když se podle Božího slibu Abrahamovi narodil Izák, osmého dne jej obřezal. Právě tak obřezal Izák Jákoba a Jákob svých dvanáct synů.
- 9 Jákobovi synové žárlili na svého bratra Josefa a prodali ho do Egypta; ale Bůh byl s ním,
- 10 vysvobodil ho ze všech jeho útrap a způsobil, že si ho farao, egyptský král, oblíbil pro jeho moudrost a svěřil mu správu nad Egyptem i nad celým královským domem.
- 11 Potom nastal po celém Egyptě i Kanaánu hlad a veliká nouze, a naši praotcové neměli co jíst.
- 12 Jákob se dověděl, že jsou v Egyptě zásoby obilí a dvakrát tam poslal své syny.
- 13 Když tam přišli podruhé, dal se Josef svým bratřím poznat; tak se farao dověděl o Josefově původu.
- 14 Pak si Josef vzal k sobě svého otce Jákoba a všechny své příbuzné; bylo jich sedmdesát pět.
- 15 Tak se Jákob dostal do Egypta a tam zemřel on i naši praotcové.
- 16 Jejich ostatky přenesli do Sichemu a uložili je do hrobky, kterou Abraham koupil od synů Emorových v Sichemu a zaplatil stříbrem.
- 17 Když už byl blízko čas, kdy Bůh chtěl splnit to, co Abrahamovi slíbil, počet našeho lidu v Egyptě velmi vzrostl.
- 18 Ale tu nastoupil v Egyptě jiný král, který už o Josefovi nic nevěděl.
- 19 Ten jednal s naším národem nepřátelsky a přinutil naše praotce, aby odkládali děti, které se jim narodí, a nenechávali je naživu.
- 20 V té době se narodil Mojžíš, kterého si Bůh vyvolil. Po tři měsíce o něj pečovali doma;
- 21 a když ho museli odložit, ujala se ho faraónova dcera a starala se o něj jako o svého syna.
- 22 Byl vychován ve vší egyptské moudrosti a byl mocný v slovech i činech.
- 23 Když Mojžíš dosáhl věku čtyřiceti let, přišlo mu na mysl, aby se podíval, jak žijí jeho izraelští bratří.
- 24 A tu uviděl, jak s jedním z nich nějaký Egypťan zle nakládá; přispěchal tomu ubožákovi na pomoc a pomstil ho tím, že Egypťana zabil.
- 25 Myslel, že jeho bratří pochopí, že je chce Bůh skrze něho zachránit; ale oni to nepochopili.
- 26 Druhého dne mezi ně zase přišel, právě když se dva z nich rvali; snažil se je smířit, a proto jim řekl: ‚Co to děláte? Jste přece bratří! Proč ubližujete jeden druhému?‘
- 27 Ale ten, který svého bližního napadl, odstrčil Mojžíše a řekl: ‚Kdo tě nad námi ustanovil vládcem a soudcem?
- 28 Snad mne nechceš také zabít jako včera toho Egypťana?‘
- 29 Když to Mojžíš slyšel, utekl z Egypta a žil v zemi madiánské; tam se mu narodili dva synové.
- 30 Když uplynulo čtyřicet let, zjevil se mu na poušti u hory Sínaj anděl v plameni hořícího keře.
- 31 S údivem hleděl Mojžíš na to zjevení; šel blíž, aby se lépe podíval, a tu se ozval Hospodinův hlas:
- 32 ‚Já jsem Bůh tvých otců, Bůh Abrahamův, Izákův a Jákobův.‘ Mojžíš se třásl strachem a neodvážil se vzhlédnout.
- 33 Hospodin mu řekl: ‚Zuj si obuv, protože místo, na kterém stojíš, je země svatá.
- 34 Dobře jsem viděl, jak můj lid v Egyptě těžce trpí, a slyšel jsem, jak sténá. Proto jsem sestoupil, abych je vysvobodil. Jdi tedy, posílám tě do Egypta.‘
- 35 To je ten Mojžíš, kterého odmítli, když řekli: ‚Kdo tě nad námi ustanovil vládcem a soudcem?‘ Toho poslal Bůh jako vládce i vysvoboditele, když se mu prostřednictvím anděla zjevil v keři.
- 36 To je ten Mojžíš, který je vyvedl z Egyptské země, který činil divy a znamení v Egyptě, při Rudém moři i na poušti po čtyřicet let.
- 37 To je on, který řekl synům izraelským: ‚Bůh vám z vašich bratří povolá proroka, jako jsem já.‘
- 38 To je ten, kdo při shromáždění lidu na poušti byl prostředníkem mezi andělem, který k němu mluvil na hoře Sínaj, a mezi našimi praotci. To on přijal pro vás slova života.
- 39 Ale naši praotcové ho nechtěli za vůdce, zřekli se ho a zatoužili po Egyptu.
- 40 Proto řekli Árónovi: ‚Udělej nám bohy, kteří by nás vedli. Vždyť nevíme, co se stalo s tím Mojžíšem, který nás vyvedl z Egypta.‘
- 41 A tehdy si udělali sochu telete, začali této modle obětovat a před výtvorem vlastních rukou pořádali slavnosti.
- 42 Proto se od nich Bůh odvrátil a dopustil, aby se klaněli nebeským mocnostem, jak se o tom píše v knize proroků: ‚Byl jsem to já, lide izraelský, komu jste po těch čtyřicet let na poušti obětovali a přinášeli dary?
- 43 Byl to Moloch, jehož stánek jste s sebou nosili, a hvězdu boha Remfana, obrazy, které jste si udělali pro svou modloslužbu. Proto vás přestěhuji do vyhnanství, až do končin babylónských.‘
- 44 Naši praotcové měli na poušti stánek svědectví; Bůh přikázal Mojžíšovi, aby jej udělal podle vzoru, který mu ukázal.
- 45 Tento stánek odevzdali svým synům, a ti jej za Jozue vnesli do země pohanů, které Bůh před nimi zahnal. Tak tomu bylo až do časů Davidových.
- 46 David nalezl u Boha milost a prosil, aby směl vyhledat místo, kde by přebýval Bůh Jákobův.
- 47 Ale teprve Šalomoun vystavěl Bohu chrám.
- 48 Avšak Nejvyšší nepřebývá v chrámech, vystavěných lidskýma rukama, jak praví prorok:
- 49 ‚Mým trůnem je nebe a země podnoží mých nohou! Jaký chrám mi můžete vystavět, praví Hospodin, a je vůbec místo, kde bych mohl spočinout?
- 50 Což to všechno nestvořila má ruka?‘
- 51 Jste tvrdošíjní a máte pohanské srdce i uši! Nepřestáváte odporovat Duchu svatému, jako to dělali vaši otcové.
- 52 Byl kdy nějaký prorok, aby ho vaši otcové nepronásledovali? Zabili ty, kteří předpověděli příchod Spravedlivého, a toho vy jste nyní zradili a zavraždili.
- 53 Přijali jste Boží zákon z rukou andělů, ale sami jste jej nezachovali!“
- 54 Když to členové rady slyšeli, začali na Štěpána v duchu zuřit a zlostí zatínali zuby.
- 55 Ale on, plný Ducha svatého, pohleděl k nebi a uzřel Boží slávu i Ježíše, jak stojí po pravici Boží,
- 56 a řekl: „Hle, vidím nebesa otevřená a Syna člověka, stojícího po pravici Boží.“
- 57 Tu začali hrozně křičet a zacpávat si uši; všichni se na něho vrhli
- 58 a hnali ho za město, aby ho kamenovali. Svědkové dali své pláště hlídat mládenci, který se jmenoval Saul.
- 59 Když Štěpána kamenovali, on se modlil: „Pane Ježíši, přijmi mého ducha!“
- 60 Pak klesl na kolena a zvolal mocným hlasem: „Pane, odpusť jim tento hřích!“ To řekl a zemřel.

Basic Hash Usage Explained
At getBible, we've established a robust system to keep our API synchronized with the Crosswire project's modules. Let me explain how this integration works in simple terms.
We source our Bible text directly from the Crosswire modules. To monitor any updates, we generate "hash values" for each chapter, book, and translation. These hash values serve as unique identifiers that change only when the underlying content changes, thereby ensuring a tight integration between getBible and the Crosswire modules.
Every month, an automated process runs for approximately three hours. During this window, we fetch the latest Bible text from the Crosswire modules. Subsequently, we compare the new hash values and the text with the previous ones. Any detected changes trigger updates to both our official getBible hash repository and the Bible API for all affected translations. This system has been operating seamlessly for several years.
Once the updates are complete, any application utilizing our Bible API should monitor the hash values at the chapter, book, or translation level. Spotting a change in these values indicates that they should update their respective systems.
Hash values can change due to various reasons, including textual corrections like adding omitted verses, rectifying spelling errors, or addressing any discrepancies flagged by the publishers maintaining the modules at Crosswire.
The Crosswire initiative, also known as the SWORD Project, is the "source of truth" for getBible. Any modifications in the Crosswire modules get reflected in our API within days, ensuring our users access the most precise and current Bible text. We pledge to uphold this standard as long as getBible exists and our build scripts remain operational.
