- 1 Da saae Paulus stivt paa Raadet og sagde: I Mænd, Brødre! jeg haver med al god Samvittighed vandret for Gud indtil denne Dag.
- 2 Men den Ypperstepræst Ananias befoel dem, som stode hos ham, at slaae ham paa Munden.
- 3 Da sagde Paulus til ham: Gud skal slaae dig, du kalkede Væg! du sidder for at dømme mig efter Loven, og tvert imod Loven befaler du, at jeg skal slaaes.
- 4 Men de, som stode hos, sagde: skjælder du Guds Ypperstepræst?
- 5 Og Paulus sagde: Brødre! jeg vidste ikke, at det var den Ypperstepræst; thi der er skrevet: dit Folks Øverste skal du ikke udskjælde.
- 6 Men da Paulus vidste, at den ene Deel var Sadducæer, men den anden Pharisæer, raabte han i Raadet: I Mænd, Brødre! Jeg er en Pharisæer, Pharisæers Søn, jeg dømmes for Haab og for de dødes Opstandelse.
- 7 Men der han dette havde sagt, opkom der Strid imellem Pharisæerne og Sadducæerne, og Forsamlingen blev splidagtig.
- 8 Thi Sadducæerne sige, at der er ingen Opstandelse, ei heller Engel, ei heller Aand; men Pharisæerne antage begge Dele.
- 9 Men der blev en stærk Raaben; og de Skriftkloge af Pharisæernes Parti stode op, strede hardt og sagde: vi finde intet Ondt hos dette Menneske; men dersom en Aand eller en Engel haver talet til ham, da lader os ikke stride mod Gud.
- 10 Men da Striden blev heftig, frygtede Øversten, at Paulus skulde sønderslides af dem, og befoel Krigsfolket at gaae ned og rive ham ud fra dem og at føre ham i Fæstningen.
- 11 Men Natten derefter stod Herren for ham og sagde: vær frimodig, Paulus! thi ligesom du haver vidnet om mig i Jerusalem, saaledes bør dig og at vidne i Rom.
- 12 Men der det var blevet Dag, sloge nogle af Jøderne sig sammen og lovede hverandre under Forbandelser, at de vilde hverken æde eller drikke, førend de havde slaget Paulus ihjel.
- 13 Men der var flere end fyrretyve, som havde gjort denne Sammensværgelse.
- 14 Disse gik til de Ypperstepræster og de Ældste og sagde: vi have under Forbandelser svoret, ikke at smage Noget, førend vi have slaget Paulus ihjel.
- 15 Saa giver nu I tilligemed Raadet Øversten tilkjende, at han i Morgen fører ham ned til Eder, som om I vilde nøiere forfare om ham; men vi ere rede til at ombringe ham, førend han kommer for Eder.
- 16 Men Paulus’ Søstersøn, som havde hørt dette Anslag, kom og gik ind i Fæstningen og forkyndte Paulus det.
- 17 Men Paulus kaldte een af Høvedsmændene til sig og sagde: før dette unge Menneske hen til Øversten; thi han haver Noget at forkynde ham.
- 18 Da tog han ham og førte ham til Øversten og sagde: den fangne Paulus kaldte mig og bad mig føre dette unge Menneske til dig, da han haver Noget at sige dig.
- 19 Men Øversten tog ham ved Haanden, gik hen til en Side og spurgte: hvad er det, som du haver at forkynde mig?
- 20 Men han sagde: Jøderne have overlagt med hinanden at bede dig, at du skal lade Paulus føre for Raadet i Morgen, som om de vilde nøiere undersøge hans Sag.
- 21 Lad du dig derfor ikke overtale af dem: thi flere end fyrretyve Mænd af dem lure paa ham, hvilke under Forbandelser have lovet, hverken at æde eller at drikke, førend de have ombragt ham; og de ere nu rede og forvente Besked fra dig.
- 22 Da lod Øversten det unge Menneske gaae og bød ham: du skal Ingen sige, at du har givet mig dette tilkjende.
- 23 Og han kaldte til sig to af Høvedsmændene og sagde: holder to hundrede Stridsmænd rede, at de kunne drage til Cæsarea, og halvfjerdsindstyve Ryttere og to hundrede Stykker fra den tredie Time af Natten;
- 24 og at de skulle have Lastdyr tilstede at sætte Paulus paa, og føre ham sikkert til Landshøvdingen Felix.
- 25 Og han skrev et Brev af dette Indhold:
- 26 Claudius Lysias hilser den mægtige Landshøvding Felix.
- 27 Denne Mand havde Jøderne grebet og vilde have ihjelslaget ham; men jeg kom til med Krigsfolket og udfriede ham, da jeg erfarede, at han var en Romer.
- 28 Men der jeg vilde vide Sagen, hvorfor de beskyldte ham, førte jeg ham for deres Raad,
- 29 og fandt ham beskyldt for nogle Spørgsmaal af deres Lov, men uden nogen Beskyldning, som fortjente Død eller Fængsel.
- 30 Men som jeg fik Underretning om, at der skulde være et hemmeligt Anslag af Jøderne imod Manden, haver jeg strax sendt ham til dig og befalet Anklagerne at fremføre for dig, hvad de have imod ham. Far vel!
- 31 Da toge Stridsmændene Paulus, eftersom det dem var befalet, og førte ham om Natten til Antipatris.
- 32 Men anden Dagen lode de Rytterne drage med ham og vendte tilbage til Fæstningen.
- 33 Der hine kom til Cæsarea og havde overgivet Landshøvdingen Brevet, fremstillede de ogsaa Paulus for ham.
- 34 Men der Landshøvdingen havde læst Brevet og spurgt, fra hvilket Landskab han var, og havde erfaret, at han var fra Cilicia, sagde han:
- 35 jeg vil forhøre dig, naar ogsaa dine Anklagere komme tilstede. Og han bød ham at forvares i Herodes’ Pallads.
