- 1 Pavlus Yüksek Meclis’i dikkatle süzerek şöyle dedi: “Kardeşlerim, ben bugüne kadar Allah önünde vicdanım tertemiz yaşadım.”
- 2 Başrahip Hananya, Pavlus’un yanında duranlara onun ağzına vurmaları için emir verdi.
- 3 Buna karşılık Pavlus Hananya’ya şöyle dedi: “Allah sana da vuracaktır. Seni ikiyüzlü! Beyaza boyanmış kirli bir duvara benziyorsun. Tevrat’a göre beni yargılamak için kürsüne oturmuşsun; fakat beni dövdürtmekle Tevrat’ı çiğniyorsun.”
- 4 Pavlus’un yakınında duranlar, “Allah’ın başrahibine hakaret ediyorsun!” dediler.
- 5 Pavlus şöyle karşılık verdi: “Soydaşlarım, başrahip olduğunu bilmiyordum. Bilseydim öyle yapmazdım. Çünkü Tevrat’ta, ‘Halkını idare edenler hakkında kötü konuşma’ diye yazılmıştır.”
- 6 Pavlus oradakilerin bir bölümünün Saduki, öbürlerinin de Ferisi mezhebinden olduğunu fark etti. Bu sebeple Yüksek Meclis’e şöyle seslendi: “Soydaşlarım, ben özbeöz Ferisi’yim. Ölülerin dirileceğine inanıyorum. Bu umudu beslediğim için yargılanıyorum.”
- 7 Pavlus bunu söyleyince Sadukilerle Ferisiler arasında bir çekişme başladı. Meclis ikiye bölündü.
- 8 Sadukiler ölümden dirilişe, ruhun ve meleklerin varlığına inanmazlar. Fakat Ferisiler bunların hepsine inanırlar.
- 9 Meclis’te büyük bir kargaşalık vardı. Ferisi mezhebinden bazı Tevrat âlimleri ayağa kalktı, olup bitenlere şiddetle itiraz etti. “Bu adamda hiçbir kötülük görmüyoruz. Bir ruh ya da bir melek onunla konuşmuşsa ne olmuş?” dediler.
- 10 Çekişme o kadar şiddetlendi ki, komutan Pavlus’u parçalayacaklar diye korktu. Askerlerine aşağı inmelerini, Pavlus’u kalabalığın arasından kapıp kışlaya götürmelerini emretti.
- 11 O gece Rab Pavlus’a göründü ve şöyle dedi: “Cesur ol! Kudüs’te benim hakkımdaki hakikatlere şahitlik etmiştin. Aynı şekilde Roma’da da şahitlik etmen gerekir.”
- 12 Ertesi sabah bazı Yahudiler bir suikast hazırladılar. Pavlus’u öldürene kadar hiçbir şey yiyip içmeyeceklerine yemin ettiler.
- 13 Bu tertibin içinde kırktan fazla adam vardı.
- 14 Bunlar başrahiplerle ileri gelenlerin yanına gittiler ve şöyle dediler: “Yemin ettik, Pavlus’u öldürene kadar ağzımıza bir şey koyarsak bize lanet olsun.
- 15 Şimdi sizler komutana gidin. Yüksek Meclis adına Pavlus’u size getirmesini rica edin. Komutana Pavlus hakkında daha ayrıntılı bilgi edinmek istediğinizi söyleyin. Onu, daha Meclis’in önüne çıkmadan öldürmeye hazır olacağız.”
- 16 Fakat Pavlus’un kız kardeşinin oğlu onların tuzak kurduğunu duydu. Kışlaya gidip Pavlus’a durumu bildirdi.
- 17 Pavlus yüzbaşılardan birini yanına çağırdı ve şöyle dedi: “Bu genci komutana götür, ona vereceği bir haber var.”
- 18 Yüzbaşı genci alıp komutana götürdü. “Tutuklu Pavlus beni çağırdı ve bu genci sana getirmemi rica etti. Sana bir diyeceği varmış” dedi.
- 19 Komutan genci elinden tutup bir kenara çekti. “Bana söyleyeceğin nedir?” diye sordu.
- 20 Genç şöyle dedi: “Yahudiler karar aldılar. Yarın Pavlus’u Yüksek Meclis’e getirmeni rica edecekler. Sana onun hakkında daha ayrıntılı bilgi almak istediklerini söyleyecekler.
- 21 Fakat sen onlara kanma! Aralarından kırktan fazla kişi ona tuzak kurmuş bekliyor. Onu öldürene kadar bir şey yiyip içmeyeceklerine yemin ettiler. Şimdi hazırlar. Senin kararını bekliyorlar.”
- 22 Komutan, “Bunları bana anlattığını kimseye söyleme” diye tembih ettikten sonra genci eve gönderdi.
- 23 Komutan, yüzbaşılardan ikisini çağırdı ve şöyle dedi: “Akşam dokuzda Sezariye şehrine hareket etmek üzere iki yüz piyade, yetmiş atlı ve iki yüz mızraklı asker hazırlayın.
- 24 Pavlus’a da binmesi için at temin edin, Vali Feliks’e sağ salim ulaştırın.”
- 25 Komutan şöyle bir mektup yazdı:
- 26 “Klavdius Lisias’tan, Vali hazretleri Feliks’e selâmlar.
- 27 Bu adamı Yahudiler yakalamış öldürmek üzereydiler. Fakat ben onun Roma vatandaşı olduğunu öğrendim, askerlerimle gelip onu kurtardım.
- 28 Onu neyle suçladıklarını bilmek istedim. Bu sebeple onu Yahudilerin Yüksek Meclisi’ne götürdüm.
- 29 Öğrendiğime göre Yahudi şeriatıyla ilgili meselelerle suçlanıyordu. Fakat ölümü ya da hapis cezasını hak edecek bir şey yapmadı.
- 30 Bana bu adama karşı bir suikast hazırlandığı bildirildi. Bu sebeple onu hemen sana gönderdim. Onu suçlayanların da şikâyetlerini senin önünde yapmalarını emrettim.”
- 31 Askerler komutanın emrini yerine getirdiler. Pavlus’u alıp geceleyin Antipatris şehrine götürdüler.
- 32 Ertesi gün atlıların Pavlus’la yola devam etmesine izin verildi. Diğer askerler ise Kudüs’teki kışlaya döndüler.
- 33 Atlılar Sezariye’ye varınca mektubu valiye verdiler ve Pavlus’u teslim ettiler.
- 34 Vali mektubu okudu ve Pavlus’un hangi vilayetten olduğunu sordu. Kilikyalı olduğunu öğrenince
- 35 şöyle dedi: “Seni suçlayanlar gelince seni dinlerim.” Sonra Pavlus’un Hirodes’in Sarayı’nda gözaltında tutulması için emir verdi.
