Genesis 4
- 1 پس از آن آدم با زن خود، حوا، همبستر شد و او حامله شده پسری به دنیا آورد. حوا گفت: «خداوند پسری به من بخشیده است.» بنابراین، اسم او را قائن گذاشت.
- 2 حوا بار دیگر حامله شد و پسری به دنیا آورد و اسم او را هابیل گذاشت. هابیل چوپان و قائن دهقان شد.
- 3 پس از مدتی قائن مقداری از محصول زمین خود را به عنوان هدیه پیش خدا آورد.
- 4 هابیل هم اولین برۀ گلۀ خود را آورد و قربانی کرد و بهترین قسمت آنرا به عنوان هدیه به خدا تقدیم نمود. خداوند از هابیل و هدیۀ او راضی گشت،
- 5 اما قائن و هدیۀ او را قبول نکرد. قائن از این خاطر قهر شد و سر خود را به زیر انداخت.
- 6 خداوند به قائن فرمود: «چرا قهر شدی و سر خود را به زیر انداختی؟
- 7 اگر رفتار تو خوب باشد قربانی تو قبول می شود. ولی اگر خوب نباشد، گناه بر در، در کمین تو است و می خواهد بر تو غالب گردد. اما تو باید او را مغلوب کنی.»
- 8 بعد، قائن به برادر خود هابیل گفت: «بیا باهم به مزرعه برویم.» و وقتی در مزرعه بودند، قائن به برادر خود حمله کرد و او را کشت.
- 9 خداوند از قائن پرسید: «برادرت هابیل کجاست؟» او جواب داد: «نمی دانم. مگر من نگهبان برادرم هستم؟»
- 10 خداوند فرمود: «چه کار کرده ای؟ خون برادرت از زمین برای انتقام پیش من فریاد می کند.
- 11 حالا تو در روی زمین، ملعون شده ای و زمین دهان خود را باز کرده تا خون برادرت را از دست تو بنوشد.
- 12 وقتی زراعت کنی زمین دیگر برای تو محصول نمی آورد و تو در روی زمین پریشان و آواره می شوی.»
- 13 قائن به خداوند عرض کرد: «مجازات من زیادتر از آن است که بتوانم آنرا تحمل کنم.
- 14 تو مرا از کار زمین و از حضور خود بیرون رانده ای. من در جهان آواره و پریشان می شوم و هر که مرا پیدا کند، مرا می کشد.»
- 15 خداوند فرمود: «نی، اگر کسی تو را بکشد، هفت برابر از او انتقام گرفته می شود.» سپس خداوند یک نشانی بر قائن گذاشت تا هر که او را ببیند، او را نکشد.
- 16 قائن از حضور خدا رفت و در جائی بنام نُود (یعنی سرگردانی) که در شرق عدن است ساکن شد.
- 17 قائن و زنش دارای پسری شدند و اسم او را خنوخ گذاشتند. قائن شهری بنا کرد و آنرا بنام پسر خود، خنوخ، نام گذاری کرد.
- 18 خنوخ صاحب پسری شد و اسم او را عیراد گذاشت. عیراد پدر مَحُویائیل بود. مَحُویائیل دارای پسری شد که اسم او را مَتوشائیل گذاشت. مَتوشائیل پدر لَمَک بود.
- 19 لَمَک دو زن داشت بنام عاده و زِله.
- 20 عاده، یابال را به دنیا آورد و یابال جد کسانی بود که در خیمه زندگی می کردند و چوپان بودند.
- 21 برادر او یوبال جد نوازندگان چنگ و نی بود.
- 22 زِله، توبل قائن را به دنیا آورد که ریخته گر هر نوع اسباب مسی و آهنی بود و خواهر توبل قائن، نعمه بود.
- 23 لَمَک به زنان خود گفت: «به حرف های من گوش کنید. من مرد جوانی را که به من حمله کرده بود، کشتم.
- 24 اگر قرار باشد کسی که قائن را بکشد هفت برابر از او انتقام گرفته شود، پس کسی که مرا بکشد هفتاد و هفت مرتبه از او انتقام گرفته می شود.»
- 25 آدم و زنش صاحب پسر دیگری شدند. حوا گفت: «خدا به جای هابیل پسری به من داده است.» پس اسم او را شیت گذاشت.
- 26 شیت دارای پسری شد که اسم را انوش گذاشت. در این موقع بود که مردم به پرستش نام خداوند شروع کردند.
