1 Maccabees 14
- 1 In het jaar 172 riep koning Demétrius zijn troepen bijeen, en trok naar Medië, om daar versterking te zoeken voor zijn strijd tegen Trúfon.
- 2 Toen echter Arsakes, de koning van Perzië en Medië vernam, dat Demétrius in zijn gebied was doorgedrongen, zond hij een van zijn veldheren, om hem levend gevangen te nemen.
- 3 Deze trok op, versloeg het leger van Demétrius, nam hem gevangen en bracht hem voor Arsakes, die hem in de kerker liet werpen.
- 4 Al de dagen van Sjimon genoot het land van Juda rust; Want hij was bedacht op het heil van zijn volk. Zij verheugden zich over zijn macht, En over zijn roem al die tijd.
- 5 Hij veroverde de haven van Jóppe, zijn hoogste roem, En opende een toegang voor de eilanden in zee;
- 6 De grenzen van zijn volk breidde hij uit, En maakte zich meester van het land.
- 7 Hij hield velen gevangen, Bedwong Gézer, Bet-Soer en de burcht: Hij verwijderde de ontering er uit, Zonder dat iemand hem weerstand bood.
- 8 Men bebouwde zijn akker, En in vrede zijn land; De bodem bracht zijn gewassen voort, En de boom op het veld zijn vruchten.
- 9 Grijsaards zaten langs de straten, En bespraken allen de welvaart; De jongemannen waren met glorie bekleed En met het krijgsgewaad.
- 10 Hij voorzag de steden van voedsel, Rustte ze als vestingen uit, Zodat zijn naam met eer werd genoemd Tot aan de grenzen der aarde.
- 11 Vrede bracht hij over het land, Israël juichte van vreugde.
- 12 Iedereen zat onder zijn wijnstok en vijg, Niemand, die hen verontrustte.
- 13 Er was in het land geen vijand meer over, De koningen waren machteloos in die dagen;
- 14 Voor alle wankelmoedigen van zijn volk Was hij een stut. Vol ijver was hij voor de wet, En roeide alle afvalligen en boosdoeners uit;
- 15 Hij was bezorgd voor de luister van het heiligdom, En vergrootte het getal der tempelvaten.
- 16 Toen in Rome en Sparta het bericht was doorgedrongen, dat Jonatan was gestorven, was men daarover zeer bedroefd.
- 17 Maar toen ze vernamen, dat zijn broer Sjimon in zijn plaats hogepriester was geworden en over het land en de steden regeerde
- 18 schreven zij hem een brief op koperen platen, om de vriendschap en het bondgenootschap te vernieuwen, die zij met zijn broer Judas en Jonatan hadden gesloten.
- 19 Dit schrijven werd in de volksvergadering te Jerusalem voorgelezen.
- 20 Het afschrift van de brief, die de Spartanen zonden, luidt als volgt: De opperhoofden van Sparta en de stad, aan den hogepriester Sjimon, de oudsten, de priesters en het overige volk der Joden, hun broeders: heil!
- 21 De gezanten, die gij naar ons volk hebt afgevaardigd, hebben ons ingelicht over uw roem en aanzien, en wij hebben ons over hun komst verheugd.
- 22 De onderhandelingen hebben wij als volgt in de staatsbesluiten opgenomen: Noeménius, de zoon van Antiochus, en Antipater, de zoon van Jáson, zijn bij ons gekomen als gezanten der Joden, om de vriendschap met ons te vernieuwen.
- 23 Het volk besloot, deze mannen eervol te ontvangen, en een afschrift van hun voorstellen in de staatsakten op te nemen, om het volk der Spartanen daaraan te herinneren. Een afschrift hiervan hebben zij den hogepriester Sjimon doen toekomen.
- 24 Daarna zond Sjimon Noeménius naar Rome met een groot gouden schild ter waarde van duizend pond, om het bondgenootschap met hen te vernieuwen.
- 25 Toen het volk dit alles vernam, riep het uit: Hoe kunnen wij Sjimon en zijn zonen onze dankbaarheid betuigen?
- 26 Want hijzelf, zijn broers en het huis van zijn vader hebben zich als helden gedragen, hebben Israël van zijn vijanden verlost en het zijn vrijheid verzekerd. Daarom lieten zij op koperen platen een oorkonde opmaken, welke men aan een zuil op de berg Sion liet slaan.
- 27 De oorkonde luidde aldus: Op de achttiende Eloel van het jaar 172, het derde jaar van Sjimon, hogepriester
- 28 en vorst van Gods volk, hebben wij in een grote vergadering van priesters en volk, van volksleiders en oudsten des lands het volgende besluit genomen:
- 29 In de talrijke oorlogen, die in ons land zijn uitgebroken, hebben Sjimon, de zoon van Mattatias en afstammeling van de zonen van Jojarib, alsmede zijn broeders hun leven veil gehad en weerstand geboden aan de vijanden van hun volk, om hun heiligdom en de wet te behouden. Daardoor hebben zij hun volk in hoog aanzien gebracht.
- 30 Zodra Jonatan, die het volk bijeen had gebracht en hun hogepriester was geworden, bij zijn vaderen was verzameld
- 31 besloten de vijanden, hun land binnen te vallen, om het te verwoesten en de hand te slaan aan hun heiligdom.
- 32 Toen stond Sjimon op, en streed voor zijn volk! Een groot gedeelte van zijn persoonlijk vermogen offerde hij op, om het leger van zijn volk te bewapenen en te bezoldigen.
- 33 Hij versterkte de steden van Judea; eveneens Bet-Soer aan de joodse grens, waar tevoren een vijandelijke krijgspost was geweest, en dat hij met joodse soldaten bezette.
- 34 Ook versterkte hij de zeestad Jóppe; eveneens Gézer in het grensgebied van Asjdod, dat vroeger door den vijand bewoond was, en waar hij een joodse kolonie stichtte, die hij van alles voorzag, wat nodig was voor hun onderhoud.
- 35 Toen het volk zag, hoe trouw Sjimon volhield, en hoe hij er naar streefde, het volk in aanzien te brengen, stelde men hem tot vorst en hogepriester aan, uit dankbaarheid voor wat hij gedaan had, voor zijn gerechtigheid en trouw, aan zijn volk bewezen, en voor zijn streven, zijn volk in ieder opzicht te verheffen.
- 36 In die dagen is het door zijn toedoen gelukt de heidenen uit het land te verdrijven, heel bijzonder hen, die de Davidstad te Jerusalem tot een burcht hadden omgebouwd, waaruit zij telkens uitvallen deden, de omgeving van de tempel bezoedelden, en zijn heiligheid schandelijk ontwijdden.
- 37 Hij legde er een joodse bezetting in, versterkte de burcht ter beveiliging van land en van stad, en verhoogde de muren van Jerusalem.
- 38 Dientengevolge bekrachtigde koning Demétrius zijn aanstelling als hogepriester
- 39 nam hem onder zijn vertrouwelingen op en overlaadde hem met eerbewijzen.
- 40 Want hij had gehoord, dat de Joden door de Romeinen tot vrienden, bondgenoten en broeders waren verklaard, en dat zij de gezanten van Sjimon eervol hadden ontvangen.
- 41 Daarom hebben de Joden en de priesters besloten, dat Sjimon voor altijd hun vorst en hogepriester zal zijn, totdat een betrouwbaar profeet zal opstaan.
- 42 Hij zal hun veldheer zijn, en bekwame mannen kunnen aanstellen voor het landsbestuur, de bewapening en de verdediging.
- 43 Hij zal ook de zorg voor het heiligdom hebben. Men zal hem in alles moeten gehoorzamen, en alle contracten in het land moeten in zijn naam worden opgesteld. Hij zal zich in purper en goud mogen kleden.
- 44 En het zal niemand uit het volk of van de priesters geoorloofd zijn, een dezer bepalingen op te heffen, tegen zijn bevelen in te gaan of zonder zijn toestemming een vergadering in het land te beleggen, zich in purper te kleden, of een gouden gesp te dragen.
- 45 Wie hiertegen misdoet of iets hiervan opheft, is strafbaar.
- 46 Heel het volk heeft het besluit genomen, deze voorrechten aan Sjimon te schenken, en daarnaar te handelen.
- 47 En Sjimon heeft ze aangenomen en zich bereid verklaard, hogepriester, bevelhebber, vorst der Joden en der priesters, in één woord: hoofd van alles te zijn.
- 48 Zij hebben deze oorkonde op koperen platen laten graveren, en die in de nabijheid van de tempel op een in het oog vallende plaats laten vastslaan.
- 49 Ook hebben zij een afschrift hiervan in de schatkamer gelegd, opdat Sjimon en zijn zonen het bij de hand kunnen hebben.

Basic Hash Usage Explained
At getBible, we've established a robust system to keep our API synchronized with the Crosswire project's modules. Let me explain how this integration works in simple terms.
We source our Bible text directly from the Crosswire modules. To monitor any updates, we generate "hash values" for each chapter, book, and translation. These hash values serve as unique identifiers that change only when the underlying content changes, thereby ensuring a tight integration between getBible and the Crosswire modules.
Every month, an automated process runs for approximately three hours. During this window, we fetch the latest Bible text from the Crosswire modules. Subsequently, we compare the new hash values and the text with the previous ones. Any detected changes trigger updates to both our official getBible hash repository and the Bible API for all affected translations. This system has been operating seamlessly for several years.
Once the updates are complete, any application utilizing our Bible API should monitor the hash values at the chapter, book, or translation level. Spotting a change in these values indicates that they should update their respective systems.
Hash values can change due to various reasons, including textual corrections like adding omitted verses, rectifying spelling errors, or addressing any discrepancies flagged by the publishers maintaining the modules at Crosswire.
The Crosswire initiative, also known as the SWORD Project, is the "source of truth" for getBible. Any modifications in the Crosswire modules get reflected in our API within days, ensuring our users access the most precise and current Bible text. We pledge to uphold this standard as long as getBible exists and our build scripts remain operational.
