1 Maccabees 7
- 1 In het jaar 151 wist Demétrius, de zoon van Seleúkus, uit Rome te ontsnappen. Hij landde met een klein gevolg bij een kustplaats, en begon daar als koning op te treden.
- 2 Toen hij nu het paleis van zijn voorvaderen was binnengetrokken, namen de troepen Antiochus en Lúsias gevangen en wilden hen voor hem brengen.
- 3 Maar toen men hem dit berichtte, zeide hij: Ik wil hun gezicht niet zien!
- 4 Daarop brachten zijn troepen hen om het leven, en besteeg Demétrius zijn koningstroon.
- 5 Nu gingen alle afvallige en goddeloze Israëlieten naar hem toe, met Alkimus aan het hoofd, die het er op aanlegde, hogepriester te worden.
- 6 Zij klaagden het volk bij den koning aan, en zeiden: Judas en zijn broers hebben al uw vrienden omgebracht en ons uit ons land verjaagd.
- 7 Zend derhalve een vertrouwd iemand, om de gehele ontreddering te komen opnemen, die zij over ons en in het gebied van den koning hebben aangericht, en om hen te straffen met allen, die ze hebben geholpen.
- 8 Daarom wees de koning onder zijn vertrouwelingen Bakchides aan, die landvoogd was aan de overkant der Rivier, grote invloed had in het rijk en den koning zeer verknocht was.
- 9 Hem zond hij nu op de Israëlieten af tegelijk met den goddelozen Alkimus, dien hij als hogepriester aanstelde, en beval hem, wraak op hen te nemen.
- 10 Ze rukten dus op, en drongen met een groot leger in het land van Juda binnen. Nu zond hij boden naar Judas en diens broers met vredelievende, maar listige voorstellen.
- 11 Dezen gingen er echter niet op in, omdat zij heel goed wisten, dat hij met een groot leger was binnengetrokken.
- 12 Maar een groep schriftgeleerden ging met Alkimus en Bakchides besprekingen voeren, om de rechtsvraag te onderzoeken, en
- 13 de chasidéen waren thans de eersten onder de Israëlieten, die hun om vrede verzochten.
- 14 Want ze dachten: Er is een priester uit het geslacht van Aäron met dit leger meegekomen; die zal ons zeker geen onrecht doen.
- 15 Toen Bakchides hun dan ook de vrede beloofde, en hun onder ede verzekerde, dat zij hun en hun vrienden niet het minste kwaad zouden doen
- 16 vertrouwden zij hem. Hij liet echter zestig van hen gevangen nemen en op één dag vermoorden, naar het woord dat geschreven staat:
- 17 Het vlees uwer heiligen en hun bloed Hebben zij rondom Jerusalem geworpen; En er was niemand, die hen begroef.
- 18 En het gehele volk werd van angst en schrik voor hen vervuld; want ze zeiden: Er is bij hen geen waarheid en recht; want ze verbreken de belofte en de eed, die ze hebben gezworen.
- 19 Daarna trok Bakchides van Jerusalem weg, en sloeg zijn legerplaats bij Bezet op. Hier liet hij vele overlopers en verschillende burgers gevangen nemen, hen vermoorden en in de grote put werpen.
- 20 En nadat Bakchides het land onder het bestuur van Alkimus had gesteld, en een legermacht bij hem had achtergelaten, om hem te steunen, keerde hij naar den koning terug.
- 21 Nu spande Alkimus al zijn krachten in, om zich als hogepriester te laten gelden
- 22 en allen, die hun eigen volk hadden gekweld, sloten zich bij hem aan; zij bemachtigden het land Juda, en richtten een grote slachting onder de Israëlieten aan.
- 23 Bij het zien van al de ellende, die Alkimus en zijn aanhang, nog meer dan de heidenen, over de zonen van Israël hadden gebracht.
- 24 trok Judas heel het gebied van Judea rond, wreekte zich op de overlopers, en maakte het hun onmogelijk, zich in het land te bewegen.
- 25 Toen Alkimus dus bemerkte, dat Judas en zijn aanhang weer sterker waren geworden, en het hem bleek, dat hij hun geen tegenstand zou kunnen bieden, ging hij naar den koning terug, en bracht gemene beschuldigingen tegen hen in.
- 26 Daarom zond de koning een van zijn beste veldheren, Nikánor die een ingekankerde haat tegen de Joden had, en beval hem, het volk te vernietigen.
- 27 Maar toen Nikánor met een groot leger tot Jerusalem was doorgedrongen, zond hij Judas en zijn broeders het volgende vredesaanbod vol huichelarij:
- 28 Laat er toch geen oorlog zijn tussen u en mij; ik zal met een klein gevolg naar u toe komen, om vriendschappelijk met u de zaken te regelen.
- 29 Hij kwam dus bij Judas, en zij begroetten elkander vriendschappelijk; maar de vijanden stonden al klaar, om Judas te ontvoeren.
- 30 Judas doorzag de opzet, en begreep, dat zijn komst louter veinzerij was geweest. Daarom vermeed hij hem in de toekomst angstvallig, en wilde hem niet meer ontmoeten.
- 31 Toen Nikánor dan ook begreep, dat zijn toeleg ontdekt was, rukte hij tegen Judas op, en stiet op hem bij Kafarsalama.
- 32 Maar van Nikánors leger vielen er ongeveer vijfhonderd man, terwijl de overigen naar de Davidstad vluchtten.
- 33 Enige tijd later ging Nikánor eens naar de Sionsberg, waar enkele priesters en ouderlingen van het volk uit de tempel kwamen, om hem vriendschappelijk te begroeten en hem te wijzen op het brandoffer, dat voor den koning gebracht werd.
- 34 Maar hij spotte met hen en lachte ze uit; hij durfde hen zelfs onteren en brutaal bejegenen
- 35 en zwoer vol woede: Wanneer Judas en zijn leger mij niet onmiddellijk worden uitgeleverd, steek ik deze tempel in brand, zodra ik als overwinnaar ben teruggekeerd. En hij ging woedend heen.
- 36 Nu gingen de priesters naar binnen, stelden zich op voor het altaar en het tempelgebouw, en begonnen wenend te bidden:
- 37 Gij zelf hebt deze tempel uitverkoren, om uw Naam te dragen en voor uw volk een huis te zijn, waar het kan bidden en smeken.
- 38 Wreek U dus op dezen man met zijn leger, en laat hen vallen door het zwaard; gedenk hun godslasteringen, en laat hen niet langer in leven!
- 39 Daarop trok Nikánor van Jerusalem weg. Hij sloeg zijn legerplaats op bij Bet-Choron, waar een syrisch leger zich bij hem aansloot
- 40 terwijl Judas met drieduizend man bij Adasa lag. Nu bad Judas:
- 41 Toen de gezanten van den koning der Assyriërs eens lastertaal hadden uitgebraakt, trok uw engel uit, en sloeg honderd vijf en tachtigduizend man van hen neer
- 42 Verpletter zo ook vandaag dit leger voor onze ogen, opdat de overigen mogen erkennen, dat hij uw heiligdom heeft gelasterd; straf hem, zoals zijn boosheid verdient.
- 43 Op de dertiende Adar werden de legers handgemeen. Nikánors leger werd totaal verslagen, en hijzelf viel het eerst in de slag.
- 44 Toen Nikánors leger zag, dat hij gesneuveld was, wierpen zij hun wapens weg en sloegen op de vlucht.
- 45 Maar de Joden vervolgden hen een dagreis ver, van Adasa af tot in de omgeving van Gézer, en bliezen de alarmbazuinen bij hun achtervolging.
- 46 Daarom kwam men uit alle naburige dorpen van Judea te voorschijn en omsingelde hen. Zij poogden nog, zich tegen hen te verweren, maar zij vielen allen door het zwaard; niet één van hen bleef er over.
- 47 Nu maakte men zich meester van de buit en van wat er geroofd was; ze onthoofden Nikánor en kapten hem de rechterhand af, die hij brutaal had uitgestoken, brachten die naar Jerusalem, en hingen ze daar op.
- 48 Het volk was uitbundig van blijdschap, en vierde die dag als een plechtige jubeldag.
- 49 En men besloot, deze dag elk jaar op de dertiende Adar te vieren.
- 50 Het land Juda genoot nu voor korte tijd rust.

Basic Hash Usage Explained
At getBible, we've established a robust system to keep our API synchronized with the Crosswire project's modules. Let me explain how this integration works in simple terms.
We source our Bible text directly from the Crosswire modules. To monitor any updates, we generate "hash values" for each chapter, book, and translation. These hash values serve as unique identifiers that change only when the underlying content changes, thereby ensuring a tight integration between getBible and the Crosswire modules.
Every month, an automated process runs for approximately three hours. During this window, we fetch the latest Bible text from the Crosswire modules. Subsequently, we compare the new hash values and the text with the previous ones. Any detected changes trigger updates to both our official getBible hash repository and the Bible API for all affected translations. This system has been operating seamlessly for several years.
Once the updates are complete, any application utilizing our Bible API should monitor the hash values at the chapter, book, or translation level. Spotting a change in these values indicates that they should update their respective systems.
Hash values can change due to various reasons, including textual corrections like adding omitted verses, rectifying spelling errors, or addressing any discrepancies flagged by the publishers maintaining the modules at Crosswire.
The Crosswire initiative, also known as the SWORD Project, is the "source of truth" for getBible. Any modifications in the Crosswire modules get reflected in our API within days, ensuring our users access the most precise and current Bible text. We pledge to uphold this standard as long as getBible exists and our build scripts remain operational.
