Sirach 31
- 1 De slapeloosheid van een rijke teert zijn lichaam uit, En tobben verdrijft hem de slaap;
- 2 De zorg voor zijn onderhoud houdt hem wakker, En brengt meer slapeloosheid dan een ernstige kwaal.
- 3 De rijke slooft zich af, om schatten op te hopen, En houdt hij er mee op, hij kan genieten;
- 4 Maar de arme slooft zich af en verspilt zijn kracht, En gaat hij rusten, hij lijdt gebrek.
- 5 Wie het goud najaagt, blijft niet zonder schuld, En wie het geld bemint, geraakt in zonde.
- 6 Velen reeds werden verstrikt door het goud, Of door hun vertrouwen te stellen in paarlen;
- 7 Want het is een struikelblok voor de dwazen, Wie onverstandig is, raakt erin verstrikt.
- 8 Gelukkig de rijke, die ongerept wordt bevonden, En de mammon niet na loopt.
- 9 Wie is hij: dan gaan wij hem prijzen; Want iets groots volbracht hij bij zijn volk.
- 10 Wie werd er beproefd en ongerept bevonden? Het zal hem strekken tot roem. Wie kon zondigen en deed het niet, Kwaad doen en wilde het niet?
- 11 Daarom is zijn geluk bestendig, En de gemeente verkondigt zijn lof.
- 12 Als ge aanzit aan de dis van een grote, Zet dan geen gulzige mond daarbij op. Zeg niet: “Er is van alles genoeg;”
- 13 Bedenk, dat jaloerse ogen een ramp zijn. Jaloerser dan het oog heeft God niet geschapen; Daarom stort het bij alles tranen.
- 14 Kijkt iemand naar iets, strek er uw hand niet naar uit, En tast niet met hem in dezelfde schotel.
- 15 Bedenk, dat uw disgenoot is als gij zelf: Let dus op alles, waar ge hekel aan hebt;
- 16 Eet als een man van wat men u voorzet, En niet met lange tanden, anders wordt ge veracht.
- 17 Houd het eerst op, uit beleefdheid; Smak niet bij het eten, anders wordt ge bespot;
- 18 En zijt ge met velen aangezeten, Steek dan uw hand niet voor den ander heen.
- 19 Heeft een verstandig mens niet aan weinig genoeg? Hij zal er geen hinder van hebben op bed. Maar de dwaas heeft last van slapeloosheid, Van pijn en draaien der ingewanden.
- 20 Gezond is de slaap bij een lege maag; En als men 's morgens opstaat, is men fris.
- 21 Dwingt men u dus, veel te eten, Spuw het uit, het zal u verlichten.
- 22 Luister, mijn zoon, en versmaad mij niet; Dan zult ge ten slotte mijn woorden verstaan: Wees bescheiden bij al uw doen, Dan zal geen schade u treffen.
- 23 Wie aan tafel wellevend is, wordt geprezen, Zijn goede manieren worden altijd geloofd;
- 24 Maar over een lomperd spreekt men schande in de poort, Men vergeet zijn ongemanierdheid niet.
- 25 Wees ook geen held bij de wijn; Want de wijn bracht velen ten val.
- 26 Zoals het werk van den smid wordt beproefd in de oven, Zo ontpopt zich grootspraak door de wijn.
- 27 De wijn is voor den mens een levenswater, Als hij hem met mate drinkt. Wat is het leven zonder wijn? Hij werd in den beginne voor de vreugde geschapen!
- 28 Vreugde voor het hart, blijdschap en genot, Is de wijn, wordt hij matig gedronken;
- 29 Maar hoofdpijn, schelden en twist brengt de wijn, Wordt hij te haastig en driftig gezwolgen.
- 30 Veel wijn is voor den dwaas een valstrik, Het verteert zijn kracht en veroorzaakt wonden.
- 31 Berisp uw vriend niet bij een wijngelag, En minacht hem niet bij zijn vreugde; Spreek hem geen harde woorden toe, En plaag hem niet met oude schulden.

Basic Hash Usage Explained
At getBible, we've established a robust system to keep our API synchronized with the Crosswire project's modules. Let me explain how this integration works in simple terms.
We source our Bible text directly from the Crosswire modules. To monitor any updates, we generate "hash values" for each chapter, book, and translation. These hash values serve as unique identifiers that change only when the underlying content changes, thereby ensuring a tight integration between getBible and the Crosswire modules.
Every month, an automated process runs for approximately three hours. During this window, we fetch the latest Bible text from the Crosswire modules. Subsequently, we compare the new hash values and the text with the previous ones. Any detected changes trigger updates to both our official getBible hash repository and the Bible API for all affected translations. This system has been operating seamlessly for several years.
Once the updates are complete, any application utilizing our Bible API should monitor the hash values at the chapter, book, or translation level. Spotting a change in these values indicates that they should update their respective systems.
Hash values can change due to various reasons, including textual corrections like adding omitted verses, rectifying spelling errors, or addressing any discrepancies flagged by the publishers maintaining the modules at Crosswire.
The Crosswire initiative, also known as the SWORD Project, is the "source of truth" for getBible. Any modifications in the Crosswire modules get reflected in our API within days, ensuring our users access the most precise and current Bible text. We pledge to uphold this standard as long as getBible exists and our build scripts remain operational.
