Sirach 50
- 1 Is Sjimon, de zoon van Onias, de hogepriester! In zijn dagen werd de tempel hersteld, Het heiligdom in die tijd versterkt;
- 2 In zijn dagen werd de muur herbouwd, De torens van het heiligdom bij het koninklijk paleis.
- 3 In zijn tijd werd de vijver gegraven, Een bekken als een bruisende zee;
- 4 Hij verdedigde zijn volk tegen den rover, En versterkte zijn stad tegen den vijand.
- 5 Hoe heerlijk was hij, als hij uit het tabernakel schouwde, En naar buiten trad achter het voorhangsel uit:
- 6 Als een ster, die tussen de wolken straalt, Als de volle maan in de dagen van Pasen!
- 7 Als een zon, die straalt over het paleis van een vorst, Als een regenboog, die tussen de wolken verschijnt;
- 8 Als een bloeiende twijg in zomerdagen, Als een lelie bij de waterbeken. Als het gewas van de Libanon in de tijd van de oogst,
- 9 Als brandende wierook op de offerpan; Als gouden vaatwerk, van gedegen goud, Met kostbare stenen bezet.
- 10 Als een groene olijf, beladen met vruchten, Als een wilde olijf, met welige takken:
- 11 Wanneer hij zich met het heerlijk gewaad had omhangen, En in zijn volle pracht was gekleed. Wanneer hij het grote altaar besteeg, Sierde hij de heilige omloop er van;
- 12 Dan nam hij de offers uit de hand van zijn broeders, Terwijl hij op de offerhaard stond. Een krans van zonen stond om hem heen, Als jonge ceders op de Libanon: Zij omringden hem als wilgen rond het water,
- 13 Al de zonen van Aäron in hun plechtig gewaad. Zij hielden Jahweh's offers in hun handen, Voor heel de gemeente van Israël;
- 14 Totdat hij de dienst aan het altaar had voleind, En het offer aan den Allerhoogste gebracht.
- 15 Dan strekte hij de hand naar het plengoffer uit, En plengde het bloed van de druif; Hij goot het uit aan de voet van het altaar, Als een welriekende geur voor den Allerhoogste.
- 16 Dan staken de zonen van Aäron, de priesters, De geslagen trompetten van koper; Zij bliezen en schalden met machtig geluid, Tot herinnering voor den Allerhoogste.
- 17 Dan viel ijlings al het volk gezamenlijk neer Met het aangezicht op de grond, Om aan den Allerhoogste aanbidding te brengen, Aan den Heilige van Israël.
- 18 Dan liet het koor zijn stem weerklinken, En boven de menigte zijn zangen weerschallen;
- 19 En al het volk juichte mee, Biddend voor het aanschijn van den Barmhartige. Wanneer hij dan de dienst aan het altaar had voleind, En aan God had gebracht, wat Hem toekomt,
- 20 Dan daalde hij af, en strekte zijn handen Over heel de gemeente van Israël uit. Dan was de zegen van Jahweh op zijn lippen, En tooide hij zich met Jahweh's Naam;
- 21 En wederom vielen allen neder, Om de zegen van hem te ontvangen.
- 22 Zegent dan Jahweh, Israëls God, Die wonderen wrocht op de aarde; Die den mens doet opgroeien van de moederschoot af, En met hem doet naar zijn welbehagen.
- 23 Hij geve u wijsheid des harten En vrede zij in uw dagen!
- 24 Zijn liefde blijve aan Sjimon behouden; Hij bevestige voor hem het verbond met Pinechas, Dat Hij sloot met hem en zijn geslacht, Zolang de hemel bestaat.
- 25 Maar twee volkeren worden door mij gehaat, En het derde volk telt niet mee:
- 26 De bewoners van Seïr en de Filistijnen, En het dwaze volk, dat in Sikem woont.
- 27 Onderricht, wijsheid en passende spreuken, Van Jesus, den zoon van Elazar, zoon van Sirach: Die uit zijn hart uitleg deed stromen En inzicht liet ontspringen als een bron.
- 28 Gelukkig de man, die ze overdenkt; Want wie ze ter harte neemt, wordt wijs.
- 29 Wie ze volbrengt, is tot alles bekwaam; Want de vreze des Heren is zijn richtsnoer.
