- 1 بهتر است انسان فقیر باشد و با صداقت زندگی کند، از اینکه یک دروغگوی احمق باشد.
- 2 داشتن دل و جرأت بدون حکمت بی فایده است و عجله باعث اشتباه می شود.
- 3 انسان با حماقتِ خود زندگی خود را تباه می کند و بعد گناه را به گردن خداوند می اندازد.
- 4 شخص ثروتمند دوستان بسیار پیدا می کند، اما دوستان آدم فقیر از او جدا می شوند.
- 5 شاهد دروغگو بی جزا نمی ماند و کسی که به دروغ سخن گوید، جان سالم بدر نخواهد برد.
- 6 مردم خوش دارند که پیش بزرگان شیرین زبانی کنند و با کسانی دوست شوند که سخاوت و بخشش می کنند.
- 7 وقتی انسان فقیر شود، حتی خویشاوندانش او را ترک می کنند، چه رسد به دوستانش، و کوشش او برای بازیافتن آن ها بجائی نمی رسد.
- 8 هر که در تلاش حکمت است، جان خود را دوست دارد و هر کسی که برای حکمت ارزش قایل شود، سعادتمند خواهد شد.
- 9 شاهد دروغگو بی سزا نمی ماند و کسی که همیشه دروغ می گوید، هلاک خواهد شد.
- 10 شایسته نیست که شخص احمق در ناز و نعمت بسر ببرد و یا یک غلام بر امیران حکومت کند.
- 11 کسی که خشم خود را فرو می نشاند، عاقل است و آنکه از گناهان دیگران چشم می پوشد، سرفراز خواهد شد.
- 12 غضب پادشاه مانند غرش شیر است، اما خوشنودی او مثل شبنمی است که بر سبزه می بارد.
- 13 فرزند نادان بلای جان پدر خود است و غرغرهای زن بهانه گیر مثل قطرات آبی است که دایم در حال چکیدن می باشد.
- 14 خانه و ثروت از اجداد به ارث می رسد، اما زن عاقل هدیۀ خداوند است.
- 15 کسی که تنبل است و زیاد می خوابد، گرسنه می ماند.
- 16 از احکام خدا پیروی کن تا زنده بمانی، زیرا هر کسی که آن ها را ناچیز شمارد، خواهد مُرد.
- 17 وقتی به یک فقیر کمک می کنی، مثل این است که به خداوند قرض می دهی و خداوند است که قرض ترا ادا می کند.
- 18 فرزند خود را تا که دیر نشده تربیه کن؛ اگر غفلت نمائی، زندگی او را تباه خواهی کرد.
- 19 اگر کسی تندخوئی کند، بگذار که عاقبتش را ببیند، زیرا در غیر آن او به تندخوئی خود ادامه خواهد داد.
- 20 اگر به پند و نصیحت گوش دهی، تا آخر عمر از حکمت برخوردار خواهی بود.
- 21 انسان نقشه های زیادی در سر می پروراند، اما نقشه هائی که مطابق با خواست خدا باشد، اجراء خواهند شد.
- 22 مهر و وفا زینت انسان است. بهتر است که انسان فقیر باشد نه دروغگو.
- 23 خدا ترسی به انسان حیات می بخشد و او را کامیاب ساخته از هر بلائی محفوظ می دارد.
- 24 آدم تنبل دست خود را بسوی بشقاب دراز می کند، اما از فرط تنبلی لقمه را به دهان خود نمی گذارد.
- 25 شخص مسخره کننده را سرزنش کن تا مایۀ عبرت جاهلان شود. اشتباهات شخص فهمیده را به او نشان بده تا فهمیده تر گردد.
- 26 هر کسی که با پدر خود رفتار بد می کند و مادر خود را از خانه بیرون می راند، ننگ و رسوائی بار می آورد.
- 27 فرزندم، اگر از تعلیم دست بکشی، به معرفت نمی رسی.
- 28 شاهد پست و فرومایه عدالت را ببازی می گیرد و از گناه کردن لذت می برد.
- 29 مردم مسخره کننده و اشخاص احمق مجازات خواهند شد.
