- 1 همانطوری که باریدن برف در تابستان یا باران در فصل درو خلاف قانون طبیعت است، احترام داشتن به اشخاص نادان هم جایز نیست.
- 2 نفرین، اگر مستحق آن نباشی، صدمه ای به تو نمی رساند و مانند پرنده ای است که به هر طرف پرواز می کند و در جائی نمی نشیند.

- 6 کسی که به دست آدم احمق پیغام می فرستد، مثل شخصی است که پای خود را قطع می کند و یا زهر می خورد.
- 7 مَثَلی که از دهان شخص نادان بیرون می آید، مانند پای لنگ سست است.
- 8 احترام داشتن به آدم احمق مانند بستن سنگ به فلاخن کار احمقانه است.
- 9 مَثَلی که از دهان آدم احمق بیرون می آید، همچون خاری که به دست شخص احمق فرو می رود و او حس نمی کند، بی اثر است.
- 10 کسی که آدم احمق را استخدام می کند، مانند تیراندازی است که هر رهگذری را مجروح می سازد.
- 11 همانطوری که سگ به استفراغ خود بر می گردد، به همان ترتیب شخص احمق حماقت خود را تکرار می کند.
- 12 کسی که در نظر خودش عاقل است، از یک احمق هم نادان تر است.
- 13 آدم تنبل پای خود را از خانه بیرون نمی گذارد و می گوید: «شیرهای درنده در کوچه ها هستند!»
- 14 او مانند دروازه ای که بر پاشنۀ خود می چرخد، در رختخواب می غلتد و از آن جدا نمی شود.
- 15 دست خود را بطرف بشقاب دراز می کند، اما از فرط تنبلی لقمه را به دهان خود نمی گذارد.
- 16 با اینهم او خود را داناتر از هفت مرد عاقل می داند.
- 17 کسی که در دعوائی دخالت می کند که مربوط به او نیست، مانند شخصی است که از گوشهای سگی می گیرد.
- 18 شخصی که همسایۀ خود را فریب بدهد و بعد به او بگوید که شوخی کرده است، مثل دیوانه ای است که به هر طرف آتش و تیرهای مرگبار پرتاب می کند.
- 19 شخصی که همسایۀ خود را فریب بدهد و بعد به او بگوید که شوخی کرده است، مثل دیوانه ای است که به هر طرف آتش و تیرهای مرگبار پرتاب می کند.
- 20 اگر هیزم نباشد، آتش خاموش می شود. اگر سخن چین نباشد، نزاع فرو می نشیند.
- 21 همانطوری که زغال و هیزم آتش را مشتعل می سازد، مرد ستیزه جو هم جنگ و دعوا را برپا می کند.
- 22 حرف های آدم سخن چین مانند لقمه های لذیذی است که با لذت بلعیده می شوند.
- 23 سخنان شیرین و فریبنده، شرارت دل را پنهان می کند، درست مثل لعابی که ظرف گِلی را می پوشاند.
- 24 شخص کینه توز با حرف های خود کینۀ دل خود را مخفی می کند،
- 25 اما تو فریب حرف های فریبندۀ او را نخور، زیرا دلش پُر از نفرت است.
- 26 اگرچه نفرت خود را با حیله پنهان می کند، ولی سرانجام خوی پلید او بر همه کس آشکار می گردد.
- 27 هر کسی که برای دیگران چاه بکند، خودش در آن می افتد. هر که سنگی را بطرف دیگران بغلتاند، آن سنگ بر می گردد و بالای خود او می افتد.
- 28 زبان درغگو از شنونده اش نفرت دارد و به او آسيب می رساند. سخن چاپلوس جز خرابی چیزی دیگری ببار نمی آورد.
