Luke 3
- 1 Sezar Tiberyus’un imparatorluk döneminin on beşinci yılıydı. Yahudiye’de Pontius Pilatus valilik yapıyordu. İmparatorun izniyle Celile’yi Hirodes, İtureya ve Trahonitis bölgesini Hirodes’in kardeşi Filipus, Abilene’yi Lisanias yönetiyordu.
- 2 Hanan ve Kayafa başrahiplerdi. Bu sırada Allah, kırda yaşayan Zekeriya oğlu Yahya’ya kelâmını bildirdi.
- 3 Yahya, Şeria Irmağı çevresindeki bütün bölgeleri dolaştı. Halkı günahlarının bağışlanması için tövbe edip vaftiz olmaya çağırıyordu.
- 4 Nitekim Yeşaya Peygamber’in kitabında şu sözler yazılmıştır: “Kırda haykıran ses, ‘Rab’bin yolunu hazırlayın, geçeceği yerleri düzleyin’ diyor.
- 5 Her vadi doldurulacak, dağ tepe alçaltılacak. Eğri yollar düzlenip engebeli olanlar yamyassı olacak.
- 6 Nihayet herkes Allah’ın kendi halkını nasıl kurtardığını görecek!”
- 7 İnsanlar vaftiz olmak için akın akın Yahya’ya geldi. Yahya onlara şöyle dedi: “Ey engerekler soyu! Yürekten tövbe etmeden Allah’ın gazabından kaçabileceğinizi mi sanıyorsunuz?
- 8 Tövbe edin ve hakikaten değiştiğinizi amellerinizle gösterin. ‘Bunu yapmamıza gerek yoktur. Biz İbrahim soyundanız’ demeye kalkmayın. Ben size şunu söyleyeyim: Allah şu taşlardan bile İbrahim’e çocuk yaratabilir.
- 9 Siz işe yaramayan ağaçlara benziyorsunuz. Balta ağacın köküne dayanmıştır. İyi meyve vermeyen her ağaç kesilip ateşe atılacaktır.”
- 10 Halk Yahya’ya, “O halde ne yapmalıyız?” diye sordular.
- 11 Yahya, “İki gömleği olan birini hiç olmayana versin. Yiyeceği olan da hiç olmayanla paylaşsın” diye cevap verdi.
- 12 Bu arada vergiciler de Yahya’ya vaftiz olmaya geldiler. “Hoca, peki bizim ne yapmamız gerekir?” diye sordular.

- 13 Yahya, “Size emredilenden daha fazla vergi almayın” dedi.
- 14 Askerler ona, “Ya biz ne yapmalıyız?” diye sordular. Yahya onlara şöyle dedi: “Kaba kuvvetle ya da yalan suçlamalarla kimseden para koparmayın. Ücretinizle yetinin.”
- 15 Halk Mesih’in gelişini umutla bekliyordu. Yahya’yla ilgili olarak herkesin aklında “Acaba Mesih bu mu?” sorusu vardı.
- 16 Yahya şöyle dedi: “Ben sizi suyla vaftiz ediyorum, fakat benden daha üstün Olan geliyor. Ben O’nun çarığının bağını çözmeye bile lâyık değilim. O sizi Mukaddes Ruh’la ve ateşle vaftiz edecek.
  Jesus will baptize believers with the Holy Spirit.
- 17 Yabası elindedir; harman yerinde buğdayı samandan ayıklayacak. Buğdayı ambarına yığacak. Samanı ise hiç sönmeyen ateşte yakacak.”
- 18 Yahya halka daha birçok öğüt verip Mesih’i müjdeledi.
- 19 O bölgenin yöneticisi Hirodes, kardeşinin eski karısı Hirodiya’yla evlenmişti, başka kötülükler de yapıyordu. Bundan ötürü Yahya onu şiddetle kınadı.
- 20 Hirodes yaptığı kötülüklere bir yenisini daha ekleyerek Yahya’yı zindana attırdı.
- 21 Halk vaftiz olurken İsa da gelip vaftiz oldu; dua etmeye başlayınca gök açıldı.

- 22 Mukaddes Ruh semadan bir güvercin biçiminde İsa’nın üstüne indi ve semadan şöyle bir ses duyuldu: “Sen benim sevgili semavî Oğlum’sun, senden razıyım.”
- 23 İsa faaliyete başladığı zaman takriben otuz yaşındaydı. Yusuf’un oğlu diye biliniyordu. Yusuf da Eli’nin oğlu,
